One of Mekky Media’s longest standing partners, Abt Electronics, the largest independent, single-store retailer of electronics, appliances and home goods in the country, is continually seeking new and creative ways to build awareness and gain media attention for the brand and location.
In July 2023, Mekky Media planned and executed Abt’s first-ever pizza cook-off event that welcomed more than 190 attendees to the store. Local media personality Steve Dolinsky, known as The Food Guy, was brought in to host alongside three Chicago-based influencers as judges. Chefs from three top local pizza restaurants – Giordano’s, GIA MIA and George’s Deep Dish – competed against each other and showcased specialty pizzas for a chance to win a donation to their charity of choice. The Mekky team secured pre- and post-event coverage, generating 31 media placements across mostly local print, online, radio and three major TV stations such as ABC7, CBS2 and NBC5. The event was also spotlighted by national outlets such as Yahoo News and Yahoo Sports, which further helped Mekky’s efforts in producing new media and community buzz for Abt Electronics..
Social media played a heavy hand in promotion by utilizing strategic partnerships with the influencers on the judging panel that resulted in a collective audience of nearly 87,000 on Instagram and TikTok. In total, Mekky Media generated over 960 million earned media impressions with traditional media and social media combined.
