The American Library Association (ALA) is the oldest and largest library association in the world, giving a voice to academic, public, school, government and special libraries for over 145 years. Mekky Media Relations began the multi-year partnership with ALA in January 2023, and have already experienced incredible success building upon its mission to enhance learning and ensure access to information for all.
When ALA came to Mekky Media, the organization presented a series of goals: it was seeking strategic PR surrounding key initiatives, ongoing storytelling surrounding its larger mission and positioning of its chosen spokespeople as experts to the media. Mekky Media has worked with the organization to develop messaging surrounding access, education and equity, as well as hot-button issues like book challenges and censorship. The team has also provided intensive media training for its new president Emily Drabinski, and facilitated proactive and reactive crisis strategy. Since the start of the campaign, the team has promoted key initiatives including LibLearnX, National Library Week and the ALA Annual Conference and Exhibition – helping the organization surpass its attendee goal.
Mekky Media has secured interviews and placements with some of the nation’s most high-profile media outlets including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, MSNBC and more.
