Chicago Lights partnered with Mekky Media to lead its first public relations initiative, aiming to increase local awareness of the nonprofit’s five key programs—Urban Farm, Tutoring, Summer Day, Dance Academy and Social Service Center. The goal was to boost volunteers, program participants, local support and donations while establishing Chicago Lights as an independent 501c3 nonprofit with deep ties to the historic Fourth Presbyterian Church. Mekky Media developed a multi-year strategy to highlight each program’s unique aspects, promote key fundraising events like Toast to Tutoring and the Spring Gala, and successfully secured feature stories and media coverage. In 2020, the team pivoted its strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic to showcase the organization’s critical social work and fundraising needs.
